Helen S. Baranowski

Baranowski, Helen Svirnelytis Baranowski , age 98, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Peter Baranowski, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2017 in Apple Rehab with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 20, 1919 in Merkine, Lithuania and was the daughter of the late Vincas and Monika Mikaloyte Svirnelytis. Her journey went through many passages with her immigration from Lithuania as a young bride, her American life beginning in Bridgeport then moving on to Fairfield, and her work as the Permittee of the Lithuanian Club starting with her husband Peter and continuing for decades after his passing. She always knew how to keep the camaraderie going and “the boys “in line and fed with her Kugelis. As a member of the Knights of Lithuania she worked to preserve and honor her Lithuanian roots.  She was “Gramma Cogali” to her granddaughter Margaux uniquely teaching her many life lessons. At 83 she left the country for the first time travelling to Italy for Margaux’s wedding. Her always cute smile continued to beam when she became a great grandmother. She was enjoyed and was supported by many circles of friends. Although Helen was unable to join them, her family found Helen’s very welcoming family in Lithuania for the first time this summer even returning to the house where she was born.  Helen is survived by her son, Alfred Baran and his with Joyce of Stratford, her granddaughter Margaux Caniato and her husband Michele of Westport along with her great grandsons Luca and Paolo. In addition to her beloved parents, Helen was also predeceased by her husband Peter. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street. All other services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank the caring team at Apple Rehab – Shelton Lakes for their compassionate care of Helen for these last few years.
