Anthony F Ross

June 10, 1926 ~ June 19, 2015 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Ross, Anthony (Tony) F. Ross, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Betsy McCauley Ross, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital with his loving family by his side. Anthony was born on June 10, 1926 in Bridgeport and was the son the late Nicholas and Rocchina Capuano Ross. Anthony moved to Stratford in 1941, graduated from Stratford High, and was a proud US Army World War II Veteran. He played semipro football for the Stratford Ramblers and the Bridgeport Rockets and was a member of the 1949 and 1950 University of Bridgeport football team. Anthony was employed by the town of Stratford as a firefighter for 27 years, served as councilman for the 9th district of Stratford for 8 years, was past president of the Men's Association of Grassy Hill Country Club, an active member of the Town of Stratford Democratic party, served on many town committees, including the Zoning Board, the Short Beach Commission, the Inland Wetlands committees and was a driving force for the World War II Memorial in Stratford. Anthony is survived by two sons, Anthony Ross Jr. and wife Cynthia of Shrewsbury, MA., Daniel Ross and wife Eileen of Southbury, two daughters, Kim Carroll of Stratford and Susan McNamara and David Fabrizi of Stratford, his loving grandchildren Melissa, Colleen, Matthew, and Maura Carroll, Kristin and Nicole Ross, Kasey Sullivan, and Emma and Ethan McNamara, one sister, Mary Volpe of Trumbull and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, Betsy of 56 years, Anthony was also predeceased by his son, Richard Ross, two brothers, Frank Ross Sr. and Felix Ross and two sisters, Antionette Besescheck and Theresa LaPia.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. DIRECTLY in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford where a Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Birendra Soreng. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home 2220 Main Street Stratford on Sunday from 2 - 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anthony's memory to the Betsy Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Sterling House Community Center, 2283 Main Street, Stratford.
