Michael A. Koperwhats

Michael A. Koperwhats, age 77, of Stratford, beloved husband of Susan Burritt Koperwhats, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017 in Connecticut Hospice with his loving family by his side. Michael was born on July 31, 1940 in Perth Amboy, NJ and was the son of the late Michael and Anna Koperwhats. He was a graduate of the Arnold College at the University of Bridgeport and was employed by the Bridgeport Board of Education as a teacher and principal for 37 years. He served his community of Stratford in numerous capacities, including Chairman of the Board of Education, Town Council, and Councilman at Large. Michael was a beloved educator, avid golfer, and tireless volunteer for Sterling House and Little League. He cherished his wife Susan. They were married 44 years. Michael is survived by two sons, Michael Koperwhats and wife Elizabeth of Charleston, SC and Aaron Koperwhats of Stratford; one daughter, Katherine Koperwhats of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher and Jacqueline; one brother, Donald Koperwhats of Delaware; one brother-in-law, E. Thomas Burritt and wife Kayoko of Columbia, SC; son-in-law, Joseph DeCrescenzo of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews, especially Fallon and Kaylee Burritt. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Stratford, 2301 Main Street, Stratford officiated by Rev. Meg Williams. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
