Carmella (Necsi) Tino

Carmela Nesci Tino passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. She was born May 24, 1933 at home in Meriden, CT to loving parents, Josephine Cotrona Nesci and Pasquale "Patsy" Nesci. Carmela grew up in Meriden, CT where she lived happily surrounded by many family members and close friends. A good student, she graduated with honors from Meriden High School in 1951. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle class of 1955. Returning home to Meriden, she taught French and English at both the junior high and high school level. She continued her post-graduate studies at Catholic University in Washington DC and Wesleyan College in Middletown CT. Carmela married Richard Tino (now deceased), also of Meriden, on July 4, 1959. The couple moved to Stratford CT in 1963 where they raised their two daughters. They moved to the Lordship section of Stratford in 1965 where she enjoyed six decades of walking the beach, breakfasts at Marnick's, frozen yogurt at Zack's, and appreciating the beauty of the area. Carmela went on to earn a Master’s degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University in the 1970s. She worked as a librarian at Fairfield Woods library before joining the faculty at the University of Bridgeport as the periodicals librarian. earning an additional Master's degree there in Media Studies. She remained there until the early 1990s when she joined St. John's University as a reference librarian, becoming one of the first online dialogue librarians in the U.S., conducting academic research on the internet before it became accessible to everyone. Carmela enjoyed reading, movies, music, art, opera, the NYT crossword, a good mystery, dinner at Ralph 'n' Rich's, and more. She was witty and clever, loved babies and ice cream. She had strong opinions and a kind heart. Carmela was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard, her brother Pat Frank Nesci, formerly of Southampton NY and NYC, and many dear friends. She leaves behind her two devoted daughters, Carla Miklos (Nicholas Giaquinto) of Milford, CT and Laura Tino (Paul Sauvageau) of No. Grafton, MA, two beloved grandsons, Alexander Miklos (Amy Winarta Miklos) of Trumbull, CT and Samuel Sauvageau of Ashland, MA and two cherished great-grandchildren, Eliana and Theo Miklos of Trumbull; as well as a special sister-in-law Marie Guarnieri Nesci of Princeton Junction, NJ, and a dear nephew Justin Nesci (Nikki Morrison Nesci) of NYC. Burial mass will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Operation Hope of Fairfield in her honor.
