Dolores “Dee” M. Smith, age 86, of Shelton, loving wife of the late Gerald L. Smith for 50 years, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025 in Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Dee was born on November 18, 1939 in Dupont, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kafara. Raised in Bridgeport, she spent the next 55 years in Stratford, settling in Shelton in recent years. She was a graduate of Harding High School and the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1960. While in nursing school she met her future husband Gerald, the love of her life. As a Registered Nurse she worked in Bridgeport area hospitals, specializing in the field of geriatrics for more than 45 years. Dee enjoyed quilting, reading, writing poetry, traveling, family vacations and trips to Vermont. The greatest joy in her life was always the time spent with her cherished husband, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's of Stratford National Catholic Church, serving for many years on the parish committee. She was also a devoted member, and longtime officer, of St Joseph's Women's Society for the Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Dee is survived by sons, Jeffrey Smith of Shelton, Gregory Smith and wife, Dana, of Orange, daughter, Sharon Talbott and husband, William, of Fort Collins, Colorado. She was grandmother to four dearly beloved grandchildren, James Smith, Jacob Smith and his wife, Victoria, Alec Smith and Meghan Smith, as well as a very proud great-grandmother to Cameron Smith. She was also "Grandma Dee" to Claire Sophie Gitner. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews as well as her unforgettable St. Joseph's family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph's of Stratford National Catholic Church, 1300 Stratford Road, Stratford, where A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may also call on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025 from 10 to 11 AM at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford.
