Dorothy Betley Obituary

Dorothy Saladyga Betley, age 94, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Andrew Betlej, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at Maefair Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 9, 1932, in McAdoo, Pennsylvania, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Saladayga. Dorothy devoted her life to her family and found great joy in caring for those she loved. She was a talented homemaker who enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking, and preparing traditional Polish dishes and holiday meals for her family. Her homemade pierogis, cherished holiday gatherings, and warm home brought generations of family together and created memories that will be cherished forever. She was actively involved in her community throughout the years, serving as President of the Wom en’s Auxiliary of North End Little League, as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and as a member of the Bridgeport Senior Center. Dorothy also enjoyed playing BINGO and card games, but her greatest happiness came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. She rarely missed a basketball, soccer, or softball game, school play, graduation, or family celebration, and she loved watching her grandchildren grow up. Dorothy is survived by her three children: David (Debra) Betley, Kenneth (Diane) Betlej, and Jane (Alan) Legen; and her six grandchildren: Christopher and Megan Betley, Katherine Betlej and Allison (Christopher) Cybart, and Michael and Kimberly (Amanda) Legen. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
