Edward T. Dean Sr.

Edward T. Dean Sr., 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of Catherine Luppino Dean, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, in Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 31, 1932 in Bridgeport and was the son of the late Edward Thomas and Margaret Madigan Dean. Edward attended Fairfield Preparatory and enjoyed keeping in touch with his fellow Latin Scholars over the years. He was drafted by the Army in 1952 and deployed to Japan where he was in charge of data processing and enjoyed playing championship baseball with his Army buddies. Ed and Cathy met while working at GE in New Jersey, their love was apparent immediately, they wed shortly thereafter and their love story continued for 64 years. They raised their three children in Stratford where Ed spent many years working for Dresser Industries. Outside of work, Ed and Cathy were involved in numerous aspects of their community. They were an instrumental part of their five grandchildren’s lives, always in the stands cheering on concerts, performances and sporting events. Ed’s kindness and integrity will live on through his grandchildren. In addition to his beloved wife Cathy, of 64 years, Ed leaves behind two daughters, Mary Dean and husband, George Grom and Deborah Dean, he was known as Papa to his five grandchildren, Edward, Jake and Samantha Grom, John Dean and Gabrielle Rodia, they were his pride and joy, one brother, William Dean, one sister, Gayle Martone, and many nephews and nieces who loved their uncle dearly. In addition to his beloved parents, Ed was also predeceased by one son, Edward Dean. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 11 AM, directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford celebrated by Msgr. Martin Ryan. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may contribute in Ed’s memory to either Stratford EMS, 2712 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615 or Sterling House, 2283 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
