Edward A. Mancini

October 22, 1930 ~ March 14, 2023 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Obituary

Edward A. Mancini, age 92, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Janet Kascak Mancini, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, with his loving family at his side. Born in Stratford on October 22, 1930, Edward was the youngest of ten children of the late Carlo Mancini and Josephine Savino Mancini, and a lifelong Stratford resident. Known to many friends, family and associates throughout his adult life as “Moon” (or sometimes, “Half-Moon”), Edward was a kind and generous soul; a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin who greatly enjoyed people, laughter, and the gift of having been raised in a large and close-knit Italian-American family. A true gentleman, he displayed a tremendous zest for life, a terrific (and often offbeat) sense of humor, a deep appreciation of many types of music (and a fine singing voice), and, like his father and brothers before him, a real talent for carpentry and cabinetmaking; much of the furniture and many accessories in his home were made by his own hands. Throughout his life, Edward possessed a great love of competition and sports, from playing scholastic and American Legion Baseball in his youth, to becoming an avid bowler, golfer and horseshoe pitcher as an adult, and served for many years as a valued volunteer for with the Connecticut Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He was also a passionate and lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, New York Rangers, New York Football Giants, and UConn Lady Huskies. A 1949 graduate of Stratford High School, Edward was a proud U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean War, having served as a truck driver and tank crewman with the 245th Tank Battalion, 45th Infantry Division. Following his military service, he spent over a decade as a riveter with Sikorsky Aircraft, then enjoyed a 25-year career as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service (and an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers). He is survived by his two loving sons, Richard Mancini of Stratford, and Frank Mancini of Sunrise, FL; five grandchildren, Jessica, David, Kayla, Allan and Sara; eight great-grandchildren, Nolan, Lila, Allon, Zane, Cruz, Elsie, BJ and Shannon; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet; his beloved daughter, Lisa Marie; his parents, Carlo and Josephine; his sisters, Eleanor, Adeline, Florence, Theresa, Laura and Geraldine; and his brothers, Thomas, Michael and William. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford where A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
