Elizabeth B. Martin

Elizabeth “Betty” Martin, age 94, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022 at Lord Chamberlain, Stratford, and is now reunited with the love of her life, her deceased husband, Raymond E. Martin, whom she shared 47 years of marriage.  Betty was born on November 20, 1927 and raised in Bridgeport, CT.  She was the daughter of the late Julia and Louis Barath.  Betty worked at Harvey Hubbell, Bridgeport and was a stay-at-home mother until her children were older.  She additionally worked at Avco Lycoming, Stratford and Waterbury Pen, Bridgeport.  She lived in Stratford for over 70 years. Betty was an avid knitter and she enjoyed her puzzles, word search books and playing bingo.  She made her annual Hungarian Christmas cookies, which she shared with family and friends.  She was happiest when surrounded by her family and enjoyed going out to eat with them especially for Italian, Thai food and the 99 Restaurant.  Betty leaves behind her beloved two daughters, Deborah Owens and her husband, Richard of Lewes, DE and Sandra Friers and her husband, Edward of Durham, CT, two grandchildren, Colleen Slusz and her husband, Stephen of East Haven and Sean Owens and his wife, Kristen of Orange, two great-grandchildren, Conner and Cooper Owens; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Gradowski of Trumbull. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Lord Chamberlain and Sunset Shores, Stratford for their care and kindness.  A funeral service will be held on, Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Catholic School, 50 Harvey Place, Stratford.
