Geraldine Murillo Obituary

Geraldine “Jeri” A. Mischik Murillo, age 77,  of Beacon Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 in Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family who affectionately called her their “Queen.”  Born in Stamford, CT on June 25, 1945 to the late Albert J. and Katherine McElroy Mischik, Jeri graduated in 1963 from Jonathan Law High School in Milford, CT, the town she grew up in and loved dearly. Jeri has also lived in Trumbull, moved to Stratford with her daughter and family several years ago, and most recently moved to Beacon Falls, a move she initially protested but eventually embraced. Jeri’s sudden and unexpected passing has left behind not only unpacked boxes, but a devastated family.  Jeri spent her career working in customer service for Citytrust, Perkin Elmer, and ultimately retiring from People’s Bank in 2012. In recent years, Jeri spent her nights awake while the family slept, keeping watch over the home, an act that led the family to begin calling her the Night Watchman. Sadly, the family’s Night Watchman has officially retired. Jeri will be most remembered for her love of her family. In 2003, Jeri would become Grammy for the first time and would remain inseparable from her first grandchild, Ashley.  Grandsons Ryder, born in 2014, and Connor, born in 2016, would only add to her blessings and keep her moving forward and looking towards the future.  Jeri was known for being stubborn and outspoken, but loved spending time with her family and friends, napping, having dinner with the family, playing cards with her grandsons, enjoying girl time with Ashley, decorating the home with her beloved daughter, Beth, listening to her son in law, Greg, talk about “Lucy,” planning outings with her son, Ivan, and spending quality time with friends. In 2013, Jeri was devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of her oldest son, Joseph. This loss proved to be the most difficult time in her life and her family takes comfort in knowing Jeri is now reunited with her firstborn.  Jeri is survived by her children, Todd Edwards of Shelton, Beth A. Edwards-Smith and husband John “Greg” Smith of Beacon Falls, and Ivan Murillo of Wallingford, her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Edwards-Gillis (Honey Bunny), Ryder Murillo (her Ry), and Connor Smith (Love Bug), as well as her dearest and lifelong friends Susan Duffy and Doris Lahr of Milford and many other friends and family. Jeri was predeceased by her first child, Joseph A Edwards III.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 10:30 AM in St. Gabriel’s Church, 26 Broadway, Milford, CT 06460. Entombment will follow in St. Michael’s Mausoleum. Friends may call on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Jeri’s memory to Beacon Hose Company Number 1, 35 North Main Street, Beacon Falls CT 06403.
