Glory Gallo Obituary

Glory Elizabeth Gallo — beloved matriarch, wife, grandmother, actress, Maestra of ceremonies, and bon vivant extraordinaire — has crossed over to the great beyond. Surrounded by her immediate family, she passed peacefully, enveloped in love and song. Her family serenaded her, prayed for her, and showered her with praise, which, let's be honest, were probably some of her favorite activities anyway.

In a beautiful moment of synchronicity, as the iconic "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole played — the same song that had been played at her mother Joyce Glynn’s memorial — Glory took her final, peaceful breath on the very last note. It was February 22nd, 2025, 11:11 AM — the Angel Hour.

Glory Elizabeth Gallo was born on May 13, 1958, in Lima, Ohio, to James and Joyce Glynn, the second of four children — Gary, Lisa, and Jim Jr. She often reminisced fondly about her childhood and had a strong bond with her Mom and Dad, who she lost in 2010 and 2023, respectively. As a child, Glory dabbled in modeling, but by her late teens, she was more interested in rebellion and world travel, with her "longest friend," Becky. In her twenties, Glory had an experience she would often say shaped the rest of her life — motherhood. It was, in her words, her "sole destiny."

Everything Glory did was an art form. From creating and maintaining cherished traditions like “The Getting of the Tree” and “The Carving of the Pumpkins,” to being a loving wife and mother who helped raise her sons into kind, thoughtful fathers and husbands — Glory was truly a master of making life beautiful. Her home, lovingly called Gnomes Hollow, became a sanctuary, a home away from home for anyone fortunate enough to experience it. And if you’d been to Gnomes Hollow, you’d know that Glory’s cooking was simply in a category of its own- sans pareil. Her culinary skills were so legendary that she helped Mark Bittman proof recipes for his cookbooks — proof that when it came to flavor, she was simply untouchable.

But that’s not all Glory was. If you thought she was just a chef and matriarch, you didn’t know Glory. She was also one of the finest, most authentic, and most creative actors to ever step on the boards. What started as a hobby in her mid-thirties quickly became a calling, and then, a career. But more important than the productions she was part of were the countless lives she touched. Nearly everyone she worked with became a lifelong friend, with an open invite to Gnomes Hollow.

When life took her unexpected places, she didn’t just roll with it — she turned lemons into lemonade and moved to Cozumel, Mexico, where she spent her final years. The ocean, the people, the culture — and of course, the friends she made along the way — were what made Cozumel feel like home. Glory had an uncanny way of loving others the only way Glory Gallo could. She lived a truly extraordinary life.

Glory is survived by many:

Her husband, forever and always, the love of her life, Michael Gallo.

Her children: Adam, Joseph, and Michael Gallo Jr.

Her Daughters in Law, Aline, Angel, Kym and Sheila

Her adopted children: Emma Bella and Noah Johnston.
