John Maksymiw

John Maksymiw, age 94, of Stratford, beloved husband of Shirley Gallant Maksymiw, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023 in the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven, with his loving family by his side. John was born on May 11, 1929 in Bridgeport and was the son of the late John Sr. and Katherine Huydak Maksymiw. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy and was employed by Sikorsky for many years as a Tool Crib Manager. John loved to travel, spend time with family, treasure hunt at the beach with his metal detector, was always willing to help someone and loved wearing his suspenders. He also always attended Sunday Mass, was an avid reader, dancer, Dallas Cowboys fan, Uconn Women’s Basketball fan, and a New York Yankees fan. In addition to his beloved wife, Shirley, John is also survived by one son, Michael Maksymiw and wife, Karen, two daughters, Laura Sharp and husband, Les and Debby Maksymiw, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two stepdaughters, Diane Hayden and husband, Russ and Karen Jennings. Friends may call on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:30 AM officiated by Deacon John Piatak. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may contribute in John’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project P.O.
