Stasko, John S. Stasko Sr., age 85, of Stratford, also known to many as "Jack", beloved husband of Dorothy Raslavsky Stasko, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2016 in Yale New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. John was born in Stratford on April 6, 1931, at his childhood home where he grew up and was the son to the late George and Julia Howard Stasko. He was a lifelong Stratford resident. After graduating Stratford High School in 1950, he began working for the Engineering Department for the Town Of Stratford. In 1952 he felt it was his duty to serve his country and enlisted in the Army where he was assigned to the 34th engineering company based in Japan. He received the Korean, United Nations, and National Defense Service Medals. After receiving a Honorable Discharge in April 1954, he returned to work for the Town of Stratford for 30 years and later for Philips Medical until his retirement. In addition, he had his own business designing and drafting houses and additions out of his own home for over 50 years. He was an avid gardener and photographer and did many of his own home remodeling projects and was a long time parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy, John is also survived by two sons, John Stasko Jr and wife Cindy and Joesph Stasko, one daughter, Gloria Martinez, six grandchildren, John III & Kirsten Stasko, Carlos & Joseph Martinez, Caren & Dana Parmelee, one great-grandchild, Carlos Martinez, one sister, Margaret Aldrich and her husband Kenneth, sister-in-law, Margaret (Midge) Stasko and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers Albert, George, William, and Robert Stasko.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 9:00 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Andrew Marus. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM.
