Barbee, Kenneth "Pop" Barbee Sr., age 66, of Stratford, beloved husband of Gail Szabo Barbee passed away peacefully on August 22, 2016 in his residence with his loving family by his side. Ken was born on July 10, 1950 in Norwalk and was the son of the late Virgil and Genevieve Black Barbee. He graduated from Brian Macmahon High School in 1968. Shortly after graduating High School, Ken joined the United States Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Galvaston (CL-93) out of Seal Beach California. He married Gail, his sweetheart in 1971 and raised their 3 children and set about teaching them skills that would enable them all to be successful in life. His 3 children remember him as their mentor and life coach. Ken was a kind, gentle, strong and patient teacher, friend and father who encouraged and taught his boys by his example to pursue their goals with all their heart. After a fulfilling career at Yale University, he retired in 2014. Ken was accomplished at everything. He was a generous, dedicated husband who loved his family with all his heart and he was passionate about helping anyone who needed his expertise and advice. In addition to his beloved wife, Gail, Ken is survived by three sons, Kenny Barbee and wife Shirley, Chris Barbee and wife Jeanne and Jon Barbee and wife Brooke all of Stratford, ten Grandchildren, Josh, Chloe, Julia, Connor, Charlie, Jimmy, Abby, Adrianna, Nathan and Jordyn, two brothers, James Barbee of Delaware and Donald Barbee and wife Nancy of Florida, his Aunt Rae Black of Florida, who was like a sister to him and his mother-in-law, Yolanda Sullivan of Norwalk and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. James Church, 2070 Main Street, Stratford where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Lynch. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Monday August 29, 2016 at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at VNS for their loving care and dedication.
