Mary Mojcher Obituary

Mary C. Hricek Mojcher, age 100, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late John Mojcher, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalen Yurko Hricek and was resident of Stratford for most of her life. Mary was born in Czechoslovakia (Slovakia) in 1922 and immigrated to the United States in 1929. She attended school at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Elementary School and also their Commercial High School Program. The majority of her working career was at Remmington Arms, where she worked in Accounts Payable for many years before retiring in 1982 as a Junior Accountant. Proud of her Roman Catholic faith, Mary loved to attend not only weekly Mass, but special services such as Forty Hours Devotion, May Crowning and Easter Triduum. She was equally as proud of her Slovak heritage and this was shown in her keeping of the Slovak traditions at Christmas Eve and Easter. She was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol organization, Wreath 39. With her husband, John, Mary attended the Tom Mohyde Dance Studio and spent many years, ballroom dancing. They also loved to travel and they toured the United States, Europe and Africa, and were able to attend college graduations of their children and grandchildren and their granddaughter’s wedding. In later years, Bingo became her passion both at local venues and Foxwoods. A lover of sports, she followed the New York Mets, golf (Rory McIlroy) and tennis. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family. Her family was her joy and we all will miss those special dinners and festivities with “Grandma Mary.” She is survivied by her loving children, Russell Mojcher (Gail) and Patricia Sidlovsky (Albert), grandchildren, Joanne Grant (Josh), Joseph Sidlovsky (Nichole), Peter Sidlovski, Alexander Mojcher and Nicole Mojcher, great grandchildren, Sophia, John and Mary-Grace Sidlovsky and many nieces and nephews.
