Robert ‘Buck” C. Grega, age 75, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025 at the John Leviton Connecticut State Veteran’s Health Care Center in Rocky Hill. Robert was born on March 28, 1950 and was the son of the late Method and Anna Buda Grega. He was a lifelong resident of Stratford, went to Bullard Havens Tech and worked as a carpenter until entering the US Army at age 18 and proudly served for two years as a combat engineer as a heavy equipment mechanic in the 589th Engineer Battalion, 35 Engineer Group, 687 Land Clearing Company, earning a Purple Heart in Vietnam. He then spent his last year serving as an MP at Fort Hood, Texas. After coming home, he worked at Wines Unlimited, then at Mill River Country Club for 35 years. Bob was a life member of VFW Post 9460 Stratford, American Legion Post 42 and was a member of Holy Name Church Men’s Society also serving as an usher. He is survived by his loving sister, Dorothy Durkin, and husband, Bill Durkin Sr. of Stratford, his goddaughter, Cynthia Durkin of Boston, MA, nephews, Bill Durkin JR, and wife, Vicki of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Dan Durkin and wife, Jennifer of Burlington, CT, great nephew, Ryan, great nieces, Rachel, Annabel and Madeleine Durkin, one sister-in-law, Susan Velky Grega of the Villages, FL. In addition to his beloved parents, Bob was also predeceased by one brother, Method P. Grega JR. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, where A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford. Arrangements were entrusted to the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford. The family would like to thank the staff at the Curtis home in Meriden, the Connecticut State VA Health Care Center in Rocky Hill and all the doctors and staff at the West Haven VA hospital for the outstanding care given to Bob. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may contribute in Bob’s memory to Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Strafford.
