Robert D. Horkheimer (Hork), age 73, of Stratford, beloved husband of Julie Florentino Horkheimer, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and daughters on Monday, October 17, 2022. Bob (Hork) was born on June 10, 1949 in Bridgeport to the late Robert J. and Katherine Cremin Horkheimer. He was raised in Stratford with his four siblings, and graduated from Stratford High School, Class of 1967. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam. Upon his return from the war, Bob met and married the love of his life, Julie, and spent the next 49 years building a life and family together. Hork was a manager with the United States Postal Service for 35 years before retiring shortly after his beloved granddaughter, Julia, was born. Bob loved the sea, and was a lifelong boater and fisherman. He was an active member of the East End Yacht Club, where he was known to have a different boat every season. He was also a member of the local American Legion Post 0196 and VFW Post 9460. He enjoyed bike riding and his yearly winters spent in Florida with Julie and his siblings. But above all else, he loved “his girls”, Julie, Katie, Kelly and Julia. He was a constant companion, handyman, jokester, and “Opa”. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Julie and two adoring daughters, Katie O’Leary and husband, Brian and Kelly Horkheimer, his granddaughter, Julia O’Leary, his sisters, Patti Horkheimer and Peggy LaPrade, his brother-in-law, Brian Florentino and his nieces and nephews, Jennifer LaPrade Gott and Patrick LaPrade, Jill Horkheimer Thompson and Danny Horkheimer. In addition to his parents, Bob was also predeceased by his two brothers, Kevin Horkheimer and Brian Horkheimer. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 9:00 AM at St. James Church, 2070 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford.
