Thomas Donegan Obituary

Thomas Daniel Donegan, 82, of Southbury, Connecticut, passed away on April 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 25, 1943, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of Helen (Maloney) and Daniel Donegan. The third of five children, he grew up with strong family roots that remained central throughout his life. Thomas graduated from Bullard-Havens Technical High School in 1961 and went on to attend the Bridgeport Engineering Institute from 1963 to 1964. He began his professional career at Fletcher-Thompson Architects & Engineering in 1962. He continued to build a diverse and accomplished career in electrical design, sales, and contracting. He worked with Meyer-Feldheim in sales and design, followed by roles in sales with Exide Batteries and 3M Industries. He later served as a lighting designer and estimator with Johnson Electric. Thomas went on to co-found Buckley Electric, a commercial electrical contracting company, with partners. In 1986, he founded Shelton Electric, which he operated until 1994. He then transitioned to self-employment as a residential electrical contractor until his retirement. Thomas was deeply involved in his community and faith. He proudly served as Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in the Monsignor Murphy Council and was an active member of the Rotary Club, where he also served on the board. He enjoyed time outdoors gardening and on the golf course. He was also a collector and found great enjoyment in life’s simple comforts. His love of tomatoes earned the nickname Tommy Tomato.  He loved spending time on his patio with music playing, a cold beer, and a fine cigar, moments that reflected his appreciation for relaxation, reflection, and companionship. Tom touched many lives and his presence, guidance, and love.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol (Natale) Donegan; his children, Dawn Gresik and her husband Ted, Kirk Donegan, Jeffrey Donegan and his wife Eleana; and his cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn, Nicholas, and Aidan Donegan, Joshua and Matthew Gresik. He is also survived by his sisters Rosemary Montecalvo and Virginia Baldino, his brother Mark Donegan, wife Susan Donegan and his late brother’s wife Vincenza Donegan, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Thomas was predeceased by his parents; his brother Michael Donegan; his son-in-law Anthony DelMastro; his brothers-in-law Dominic Baldino and Michael Montecalvo; and his in-laws Peter and Florence Natale.
