William Seltenreich Obituary

William E. Seltenreich (aka Pic) passed away on April 26, 2026 surrounded by his loving family, just six weeks shy of his 98th birthday. Born June 11, 1928, in the East End of Bridgeport, Bill was the son of Frederick & Helen (Banas) Seltenreich. He was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, Harding High School, and he attended the University of Connecticut, majoring in accounting. He had a rote memory and numbers came easy to him. As a boy, his love of baseball shone through. He stated he would cry whenever it rained because he couldn’t be outside playing the game he loved the most. As an adult, he was the Player’s Manager of the 28th Division while in the army, stationed in Germany, then turned to fastpitch softball and played with many teams in Bridgeport and Norwalk and finished his baseball career with the Raybestos Cardinals. Pic was inducted into the Connecticut Fastpitch Hall of Fame in 1999. Pic turned to golf as his second athletic career and became a member of the Mill River Country Club for 50+ years. As Pic said, they were lucky shots, but he was very proud of his 8 holes in one. His gin scores were better than his golf scores (as the club’s members know.) Pic decided that a career as an accountant was too boring for a man with his outgoing personality, so he became a liquor salesman for Brescome & Barton. During his career, he earned many accolades and traveled all over the world as a result, retiring after 47 years at the young age of 82. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Norma (Kaesmann) Seltenreich and his brothers Robert & Frederick Seltenreich. He is survived by his brother Richard (Elaine) Seltenreich, his sister Marge Bucci, his stepsons Fred (Aime) Kaesmann and Scott (Christina) Tompkins, & his loving companion of 24 years, Lynn Tompkins. He is further survived by grandchildren Freddy (Sofia) Kaesmann, Elizabeth & Stephanie Kaesmann, and Annabella & Jake Tompkins, as well as several nieces and nephews. Pic was a great storyteller and was graced with meeting so many famous people, he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. With a twinkle in his eyes and a handshake, Pic would always say “You’re the best!” With a twinkle in our eye, we say “Pic, you’re the best, always and forever.” Rest in peace with love. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford CT. Internment will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers.
